Wooden Hornbill Statues. Three in various sizes. Dayak. Borneo
These are stunning wood sculptures carved by Dayak peoples in Borneo. They depict the rhinoceros hornbill bird (Buceros rhinoceros). The figures are called Kenyalang and are carved for and used in a major sacred rite called Gawai Keyalang.
A medium hardwood is used for the carving. Buah Berinjan and creeper motif is used throughout. The statue in the background is really not that much difference in color as shown in the first image.
Three sizes are included.
