I am always amazed at the detail of these carvings.  Hanuman, avatar of Lord Shiva, is the symbol of physical strength and devotion.  The multiple colors in the wood grain are very appealing.  The wood is not as dense and heavy as Ireng wood so I am not sure what kind of wood was used.  Acquired from a private collector in Vermont in 2000.  I would guess that it is mid- to late-1900s.  The tip of the highest serpent tail has broken off . . .  but honestly not noticeable.
