In Buddhist mythology, the Garuda was an enormous predatory bird with intelligence and social organization.
What struck me most about this wooden statue was the colored glass ornamentation. This carving is a very similar representation of the Garuda located in the south hall of Chakri Maha Prasat Hall, Grand Palace, Bangkok, Thailand . . . but a lot smaller.
Carving is in excellent condition with a couple of glass ornaments missing.
This piece is quite old and as acquired from a private home north of Rayong city.
