The gorgeous piece is still a mystery to me.  My African agent found this detailed leather piece in a high-end cultural arts shop in South Africa.  No history, no origin but only that it was likely from the mid- to late- 1900s.

 

Initially, I thought that this might have been sewn but now I think it is an artisan’s work and it is stained and compressed (or pressed) leather work.  Regardless, the design and overall composition is quite stunning.

 

It fits nicely on a vintage glass mannequin head so I will offer that for sale for an additional $45 USD plus postage.
