Vintage Leather Mask. Africa
The gorgeous piece is still a mystery to me. My African agent found this detailed leather piece in a cultural arts shop in South Africa. No history, no origin but only that it was likely from the mid- to late- 1900s. Initially, I thought that this might have been sewn but now I think it is an artisan’s work and it is stained and compressed (or pressed) leather work. Regardless, the design and overall composition is quite stunning.
It fits nicely on a vintage glass mannequin head so I will offer that for sale for an additional $45 USD plus postage.
