Quite stunning! The Maitland Smith company was founded in Hong Kong by a well-known antique dealer. Besides designing quality 18th century furniture, Maitland Smith also scoured the globe in search of quality antique furnishings to supplement his furniture. This elephant was cast in the Philippines and they put their label on it.
Below it’s body – above the base – is a round medallion where an antique clock once was placed. I have found a newer clock and it will be included.
I am not sure of the exact date of the casting but – based on the patina – I would estimate 1930s – 1940s. Plenty of detail and very elegant. I have scoured auction sites to find others that were listed or currently listed . . . none.
Excellent overall condition!
For the Serious Collector of large and realistic elephants.
