The Hollywood Regency is an American interior design style born within the cinema industry between the 1920s and 1950s when the silver screen depicted luxurious spaces filled with drama and gilded glamour and celebrated the lavish living of Hollywood’s Golden Era. The name “torchiere” comes from the French word for torch, as the lamp is designed to give off a bright, upward-facing light, similar to that of a torch. Well, yeah.
Well, that’s the definition and this lamp certainly fits the bill.
With lion heads on all sides of the center post, a gorgeous and thick glass shade and metal decorative base, this elegant lamp will certainly be the hallmark on your entry table or on an end table in your den.
The lamp reminds me of one of Maitland Smith’s creation, but without a tag, I cannot substantiate that.
The cord is in good condition except for one part that might have been burnt by a radiator. I inspected it and decided to make sure it was safe. And, it is.
Don’t pass up on this mid-century lamp with so much character and ambiance. It’s is very good condition.
