Detail: This is a “Warrior Fortune God” that was meant to bring good fortune to the rural population in China. Normally found in village temples, this was one of two types of fortune gods. The other is a scholar. This particular statue is from the Shanxi Province in northern China. The hole on the back was most likely for prayer messages. Circa late- 1800’s or early 1900’s. In good condition with most of the gilt and coloring reesotericstuff.coming.
