Three handled food container. This is a rare styling from the late Western Chou (late 9th to early 8th Centuries, B.C.). Deeply inscribed. Very well done and in excellent condition.
From Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, Central China.
I selected many of these vessels from a reference book of ancient bronzes (Chinese Bronzes by Paul Hamlyn). I found a collection of bronze vessels whose craftsmen were meticulous in capturing the era and style. All of the vessels recently listed were handmade in China in the mid- 1900s. Most are museum quality.
