Tibetan Protector Deity, Vaishravana, Tibet or China

Tibetan Buddhist deities are protective figures and defenders of the Buddhist teachings (the dharma). Many are wrathful deities like the guardians of law, the lokapalos. Of them, Vaishravana – king or guardian of the north – is shown here with human form and on the back of a Tibetan snow lion. This is an older piece cast in bronze with gold gilt. I would assume early- to mid- 1900s. Stunning detail.
