Detail:  Excavated in eastern Java, near the once-capitol city of the Majapahit Empire, Trowulan.  Other examples of Majapahit terracotta can be found in the National Museum in Jakarta,  The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, The Princess Hof Ceramic Museum in Leeuwarden plus in a superb book titled Majapahit Terracotta Art by Hilda Soemantri. This piece is in phenomenal shape considering its age.  It was originally acquired by a Croton-on-Hudson New York art dealer from an antique dealer in Java who had operated an antiquities gallery there for over 40 years.  I secured it in 1999 and it has been part of my private collection since.  It is a Museum Piece on a simple wood base.  For the Serious Collector.
