A Orang Ulu shaman carrier / container is primarily used to store medicine, herbs, roots and other plantation items. The carrier is adorned with the naga motif, the common Buah Berinjan vines, two ancestral Dayak warriors on the two poles and accented with the woven vine / rattan material on the edges.
Even though it is a smaller version that normally acts as a backpack, it is still authentic Dayak and is hand carved by Orang Ulu artisans (specifically the Kayan minor-tribe) living in longhouses in Central Borneo. The Kayan (one of 6 minor tribes) are most known for their ancestral carvings and traditional crafts. By the way, Orang Ulu means “up-river dwellers.
A terrific conversation piece for sure. Stand not included.
