This is a gorgeous and highly detailed Avalokiteswora of the Buddhist Pantheon. Believed to protect human beings while they cross the ocean of existence. Precious ornaments adorn her body.
The sealed bottom shows an engraved design that I believe is the crossed-Vajra, symbolizing the principle of “absolute stability”. Many times this symbol – or variations – indicates that the statue has been consecrated and thus used in a religious ceremony.
In perfect condition. Circa mid- to late-1900’s.
