This amulet is from the skull bone of a Lama – teacher of Tantra or Sutra texts – in the north central part of Nepal where a Tibetan population resides in an area called the Mustang Kingdom. The skull is hand carved and is either buried in a holy place with herbs plus other religious items or such skull carvings are placed over burning incense for a period of time. Hence, the color. Now for the jade, which is a Chinese stone. Politics aside, jade symbolizes energy and wisdom which fits well with the Tibetan Buddhism, Mahayana or Tantric.
I have seen one or two of these jade/skull-bone necklaces over the last 10 years with the same profile.
This was said to have come from the Kopan Monastery during the time Lama Thubten.
This is a sacred necklace and has definite healing powers.
For the Serious Collector.
