Thebes known to the ancient Egyptians as Waset, was an ancient Egyptian city located on the banks of the Nile.  It is home to the Great Temple of Amun, Luxor Temple, the Mortuary Temples of Amenhotep III, Hatshepsut, Seti I, Ramesses III, the Valley of the Kings, Tombs of the Nobles . . .  just to name a few.

 

“Ancient Egypt or Mizraim”, a monumental Egyptian plate book was produced by American Egyptologist Samuel Binion.  It was profusely illustrated with fine engravings and 72 elephant (19.5 x 26” ) folioegyptian plates, many in color covering pyramids, temples, views, the Sphinx, antiquities, papyri, numerous Egyptian subjects and . . .  in this case, mummies.

 

This mummy plate is from Volume II, Plate XXVIII.  From the first printing,  limited edition 197 (of 800 copies).  It is authentic and original . . . . .  and printed in 1887.

 

Slight creases/tears along paper border.  Bound along one side . . .  with some linen fragments.  Minor stains.

 

You can purchase a later printing of both volumes of this spectacular book in fair condition (missing many plates) for a mere $6,000 USD.  OR, you can purchase this first edition plate in good condition and have it framed in gold for less.

 

Plate only.  No frame or matting.
