Prayer Beads / Mala / Rosary Handcarved Yak Bone Skull Necklace, Tibet

Click the photo above for a larger version and more pictures

Malas are used to count prayers or mantras.   A mala is a reminder of impermanence.  When counting prayers or mantras using the beads, we are to be reminded of how precious our short life is.  Handcarved from Yak bone, each skull is slightly different . . . but done by the same artisan.

Malas are most commonly made of wood, but they can be also made of amethyst, lotus seed and – as this one – bone.  Search for “mala”  for other offerings on this site.  Stand not included.
