The mythical deity – Garuda – has a ton of spiritual significance in Hinduism and Buddhism. In Hinduism, Garuda is most often found mounted on the back of Vishnu, as the god’s protector.
Here the Garuda – with a snake in its beak – symbolizes the predominance of intellect / power over the basic human instincts. Hence the conquest of evil (ignorance) by the purity of good (intellect and wisdom). I think we could use a few more Garudas today.
These masks can be found in Buddhist and Hindu temples everywhere and are revered as a guardian deity. Traditionally, Garudas are hung over the esotericstuff.com door to homes . . . again as a protector
