Old Tibetan Monastery Thangka Tangka. Shechen. Nepal / Tibet

Vairocana, the celestial sun Buddha.  It is the oldest Dhyani (mediation) Buddha.  Face and most trim designs are in 24k gold paint.  The embroidery work is vibrant.  The painting is rich and in very good condition.  From the mid-1900s.

 

The artisan who designed and painted this Thangka is from Boudhanath, near Kathmandu.  He is well known for making many Thangkas for the Shechen Monastery.

 

An older original and in very good condition.

 

It is currently mounted on black foamcore but will be rolled and shipped in a tube.
