Detail:  Surya, the supreme light, is the chief solar deity in Hinduism. In Shaivite theology, Surya is said to be one of the eight forms of Shiva.   This head in a beige hard stone (appears to be harder than sandstone) is said to be 600+ years old.   This head was part of a larger – perhaps free-standing – stela carved in relief with other Hindu figures.  We acquired this about 10 years ago from a semi-permanent collection of a fine art gallery in Massachusetts.

The head sits on a hardwood base.  The attachment is less than elegant.  See images.  For the Serious Collector.
