The Matsés or Mayoruna people – not to be confused with the Matis Indian tribe –  are indigenous to the Peru and Brazil Amazon area (between the Javari and Galvez Rivers).  They are known as the “Cat People” due to the facial adornment of whiskers and tattoos.  The first contact with this people was in 1969.

Today there are just a few thousand Matses people.  They live in forest settlements and rely on hunting and gathering for most of their subsistence.  Once known for their use of blowguns, they have abandoned them in favor of bows and arrows.

This set is authentic and expertly made… from the exotic feathers, dyed cotton wrappings and the application of ground aciote (a shrub) seeds to the wood bow.

Collected from a very remote Matses village in 2008.  I acquired the set in 2011. The set is in excellent condition.

For the Serious Collector.  Stands are not included.
