The Chokwe are an ethnic group of Central Africa whose ancestry can perhaps be traced to Mbundu and Mbuti Pygmies.  This “helmet” mask with braids and facial scarifications is somewhat rare.  The braids and scarification are somewhat typical but the helmet structure  and woven neck bands are foreign to me.

Acquired from a mask collector in France, the owner was confident it was from the 1950s.

In very good condition and a sizeable piece.  No stand is included.

For the Serious Collector.

This Mask has sold.  Many thanks M.S. ! !
