Truly Stunning!
By now you know the significance of this Hindu deity riding between the Garuda (protector) wings. If not, ask me. I have books on the symbolism .
Carved in the 1940s -1950s in the town of Ubud in the highlands of Bali. Ubud is known for its traditional and spiritual crafts and dance. It is an exotic place with temples, caves (Goa Gajah), shrines (Gunung Kawi), palaces… and even a sacred monkey sanctuary.
A fellow collector from Texas brought this carving back to the states in the early 1990s. He stated that it resided in a small temple just outside of Ubud.
It is magnificent…. 36” tall. 34” wide and weighing almost 25 pounds. Cracks in the base have been stabilized. There are a couple small pieces missing from wings. The coloring and remnants of gold leaf add to the huge aesthetic value.
The wings and tail are detachable for shipping.
For the Serious Collector.
This once-in-a-lifetime piece has sold. Many thanks M.S. !
