A Mayan Jaina Island artifact from the Classic Period. Jaina is part of the Mexican state of Campecha and located off the Gulf coast. This piece is from the Nicholas T. Molnar collection that was acquired during the period of 1960 to 1978.
This is a rattle figure – with some repair – that has lost the rattle balls (typical of these rattles). Much of the paint is still intact.
In July 2006, this figure was put up for auction through the Arte Primitivo Howard Rose Gallery (New York) and can be seen on page 12. It has been held by a private party since then. A copy of the page and the cover of the catalog will be sent with the purchase.
It is a phenomenal piece of investment art. Stand not included.
For the Serious Collector.
