This wall hanging or doortop embroidered tapestry is most often used to welcome guests.  It uses the “mirror work” technique where its long and short darning stitches are worked on the wrong side of the cloth . . .  and the pattern takes shape on the other side.  The motifs are made up of horizontal, vertical and diagonal stitches and the overall design is neither drawn nor traced.  Silk thread is normally used.
