Hand Carved Tantric Wooden Masan Mask.  Wood. Nepal

Click the photo above for a larger version and more pictures

“Kālacakra” – very complex teachings and practices of  Tibetan Buddhism – was brought to Tibet in the 5th Century B.C. from India.  Two Nepalese scholars (Padmasri and Jnanavajra) developed these teachings and practices to Tibet as an interpretation of Mafijuirzha’masan‘zgzti  (or Masan).

Advanced and rather “esoteric”, it became accepted in the popular arena.

This mask is very rare for this reason.

Age cracks.  Stand is not included.

For the Very Serious Collector of esoteric masks.
