Hand Carved Asian Horse with Gold Gilt, China

Detail:  Nicely carved horse with Tang Dynasty- styled saddle and trimmings.  Circa early- to mid- 1900’s.  The gold paint forms a rough surface . .  almost like small grains.  This technique is unknown to me.  One front leg has been either carved in sections or has had a repair.  See image.   This is a very unusual piece and quite stunning.
