Double Sided Oceanic Suspension Hook / Mask, Iatmul Clan, New Guinea

These types of carved suspension hooks are used in ceremonial places or homes to hang valuables or ritual items. Usually, detailed carvings of mythological ancestors and figures enhance the representation of several events surrounding the lives of Iatmul clan ancestors. On the back is carved a human face and figure. Circa 1960s or 1970’s. Excellent condition. For the Serious Collector.
