You have heard my many descriptions of Kwan-yin or Guanyin…. Goddess of Mercy or “The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World” or “The Most Widely Loved Buddhist Divinity”.
But what I might not have mentioned is that some Buddhists believe that when a fellow follower departs from this world that they are placed by Guanyin in the heart of the lotus.
What about the lotus?
In Buddhism, the lotus is known to be associated with purity, spiritual awakening and faithfulness. The flower is considered pure as it is able to emerge from murky waters in the morning and be perfectly clean… which also suggests “desire” which leads to spiritual enlightenment.
Lotus color also matters: for this statue, the white lotus flower symbolizes Bodhi (being awakened), represents a state of mental purity and spiritual perfection. The lotus flower is considered to be the womb of the world.
Now you know about the flower.
This porcelain was likely created in the last 25 years. It is from a different source than I have used in the past. There is less polished glazing. . . . yielding a more intense white and brightness. The detail – as always with Dehua porcelain – is beyond stunning. Very fine condition.
For the Serious Collector.
This stunning item has sold to M.S.. Thanks!
