The originals of this piece were found in various archeological sites around Japan.  They are figurines made during the late Jomon Period (14,000 – 400 BC) of prehistoric Japan.  They gained popularity thanks to Erich von Daniken’s documentary and hypothesis that these statues represented ancient alien spacesuits.

You have to admit that the detail and configuration is quite advanced.  Some suggest that such figures are associated with fertility and shamanistic rites.

The originals of these Dogu figures were fashioned out of clay and about 12”.  This one – with a metal stand –  is nearly 17”.

This unique Dogu statue has sold.  Thanks D.B.!
