This mask is from the Chokwe people living in central Angola. Mwana Pwo refers to the beauty of a woman’s face and represents a female ancestor. The scarification patterns, the open mouth and pointed teeth all represent beauty for the Chokwe.
A great mask with a lot of history. In good condition. Stand not included.
