Detail: The running horse with its right hind hoof on a swallow is a familiar cultural relic from the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 to 220 AD). I have seen many of these over the last 20 years but I especially like this one with its elegant and delicate floral pattern over the entire body of the horse. In addition, this is a very large and heavy piece which tends for me to believe that it is a bronze piece, not the typical copper Ma ta fei yan that you usually find. This representation has become the symbol of Chinese Tourism. There are some oxidation marks but it does not detract from the background designs. Circa mid- 1900’s. In good condition.
