Bronze 19th Century Lopburi Naga Buddha Statue, Thailand

As background, Lopburi is one of Thailand’s major historic sites.  This style of casting thrived in the 13th Century.

 

This statue shows Buddha mediating while Naga (Muchalinda) forms a shelter from a demon (Mara).

 

Acquired from an American who has lived in Thailand since the mid-1960s, has learned so much about the ancient culture, collected many Buddhist items and enjoys a solid reputation of knowledge there.

 

From the late-1800’s.  Very good condition.  Stand not included.  8.75” tall x 2.75” at widest point
