There are many Igbo tribes in Nigeria that use masks for diverse functions.  Even so, masking traditions throughout the various Igbo geographic regions share common and underlying themes and similar spirits.

There are two types of Igbo masks: those idealizing the qualities of young women and those representing the powers of men.

This mask definitely represents the powers of men.  These masks are used in ceremonies and festivals . . .  dramas, sacred and social ,ancestral rituals, burials, and public performances.

Fierce?  Yep.  Plus, the varmint on his head is ready to pounce on your face.   Enjoy.
