This antique carving is from an estate sale in S. California. American ownership can be traced back to the early-1900s. It is very light in weight but I don’t think it is monkey pod. I think it is carved from Albasia wood . . . a wood commonly used by older tribes to make war defensive shields. This particular statue has a lot of character. It is still in great shape including the multiple colors of paint / stain used to decorate the carving.
