Detail: Betel is the leaf of a vine that is valued as a mild stimulant and for its medicinal properties. Wrapping leaves and stuffing them into the Areca nut – itself a stimulant – is called, at least to those in Southeast Asia, Betel Nut. This antique brass container is from the late-1800’s and comes from a Borneo family who has had possession for many generations. Notice the fine flower motifs and rich patina. The corners are especially notable. In pristine condition. For the Serious Collector. Cool.
