19th Century Wooden Painted and Gold-Gilt Horse Statue, China

Detail:  This horse was carved in ZheJiang province, southeast China back in the 19th Century.  Excellent workmanship.  Some of the applied paint and gold has started to crack and expand around the neck (see images).  However, it is very stable.   Acquired from an Asian art dealer in San Francisco CA in 2001.
