Detail: This statue is a museum quality mid-17th Century Shan Buddha with its “classic” style of simple lines and features. Much less “decorative” than the Buddhas of the late 18th and 19th Centuries. This particular Buddha was found buried in a temple garden in Mai Sai in Northern Thailand – near the border of Burma. There were three additional Buddhas found at the same site. All four were purchased by a friend of one of our Agents in 1974. My Bangkok agent purchased it in 1997. I acquired this stunning piece in 1999. The Buddha sits on a throne calling the earth to witness and with legs in the diamond position – with soles facing up. There is still some gold gilding on the hairpiece. There is also some additional coloring beyond its natural patina. This is an exceptionally fine historic piece. Stand not included. For the Serious Collector.
