Sun Wukong – aka the Monkey King – is a mythological warrior figure who is featured in many legends and can be traced back to the period of the Song Dynasty (960 – 1279 AD). He was known to possess immense strength and was a skilled fighter. There are reams of stories about this character and they are quite fascinating. This piece is a large statue…. much larger than normal. It has lots of detail. Although hollow, it has substantial weight.
